The 79-year-old star of Rocky Horror was seen maneuvering a wheelchair outside Gelson’s supermarket in the sunny coastal city.
Tim wore a long-sleeved red T-shirt for the occasion. He is also known for his role as hotel concierge Mr. Hector in the cherished film Home Alone 2. Following a collapse at his California residence in 2012, Tim suffered a stroke that rendered him speechless and partially paralyzed on one side of his body.
The acclaimed actor has largely remained out of the public eye following a stroke at the age of 66. Before this health crisis, Tim had an illustrious acting career, gaining fame in 1975 with The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
His most iconic role was as Dr. Frank N. Furter, a brilliantly eccentric scientist. Before reprising this role in the 1975 film, he had performed it on Broadway after debuting in the original 1973 London production.
In an interview with Los Angeles magazine, he expressed a sense of detached amusement regarding the film’s success, stating, ‘It’s neither a blessing nor a curse. I was fortunate to have it.’ For many years, he refrained from discussing the film, fearing he would be typecast.
Tim recalled his Broadway debut on the opening night of The Rocky Horror Picture Show as ‘very thrilling,’ although he felt the critics were excessively harsh. ‘I had to appear on the Today Show the following day, and they read the reviews – which were dreadful,’ he recounted.
‘That was disheartening. It was quite cruel.’ His performance was described in reviews as ‘a blend of Burt Lancaster and Joan Crawford’ and ‘Mick Jagger, David Bowie, and Marc Bolan all in one.’
He later portrayed the uptight and suspicious Mr. Hector in Home Alone 2, released in 1990. Although not in a leading role, his character became one of the most memorable from the sequel to the beloved Christmas film.
