Cases explode in Queensland

Queensland is witnessing a notable increase in whooping cough cases, having reported over 2,380 infections in the initial months of 2025—this figure is more than three times the average recorded from 2020 to 2024.

In the year 2024, the state documented 15,012 instances of the disease—surpassing the total number of cases recorded over the preceding 11 years. Health professionals link this concerning increase to a drop in immunization rates following the COVID-19 pandemic and inadequate personal hygiene.
