19-year-old crushed by forklift chooses to amputate bottom half of his body

In 2019, 19-year-old Loren Schauers from Montana endured a devastating accident when the forklift he was operating plummeted 50 feet, resulting in the crushing of his lower body. Remaining conscious throughout the ordeal, Loren courageously opted for a life-saving hemicorporectomy, which involved the amputation of his lower half.

With the support of his girlfriend Sabia, who is now his wife, Loren overcame significant challenges and was discharged from the hospital within three months. Despite continuing health issues, he documents his experiences on YouTube, motivating more than 600,000 followers.

The couple encounters intrusive inquiries, particularly regarding their personal relationship, which Sabia describes as ‘profoundly disrespectful.’ Loren, on the other hand, is more forthcoming about different subjects, detailing his experience with a colostomy and kidney drainage.

Despite the departure of some friends, Loren maintains an optimistic outlook, stating, ‘I have Sabia, and that is sufficient for me.’

Five years later, Loren expresses gratitude, stating, “One must not dwell on what has been lost—rather, embrace life fully with what remains.”
