Trump is suddenly camera-shy amid health rumors as ‘most accessible’ president goes dark

President Donald Trump went golfing over the weekend with his grandchildren, dodging press, which is relatively unusual for the “most accessible” U.S. leader in history

US President Donald Trump has kept a low profile in recent days, despite an unusually busy schedule earlier in the month.

It is typical for US presidents to take a summer break in August during the annual recess of Congress. In total, the president has taken 15 trips to his golf course in Virginia, including Saturday, and a weekend trip to his golf course in Scotland this summer, a longer period than his first term, leading to online speculation about his health after the diagnosis was announced.

However, President Trump, whom the White House has often called the “most accessible” president in the country’s history, has made 26 public appearances over the summer months.

The president had no major public appearances on his agenda for the next three days before spending the Labor Day holiday weekend in the nation’s capital with his family, during which a group of reporters spotted him playing golf with his grandchildren, including avid golfer Kai Trump, 18, and Spencer Trump, 12.

Trump was seen wearing his classic uniform, including a white polo shirt, black pants and a red “Make America Great Again” hat, as he played golf at his Virginia golf club with Kai and Spencer on Saturday.

The day before, he gave an hour-long interview to the right-wing outlet, the Daily Caller, with White House correspondent Reagan Reese describing the president as “very lively” on social media ahead of the discussion.

Trump’s lack of public appearances in recent weeks has sparked growing online speculation about the 79-year-old president’s health after weeks of rumors about his well-being as disturbing images emerged of his bruised limbs and swollen ankles.
