Jemele Hill savagely took Sophie Cunningham down following the Indiana Fever star’s criticism of the WNBA’s expansion plans.

It’s safe to assume that Cunningham will not be welcome in two of the cities set to return women’s basketball to their turf by the time the next expansion is complete.

The WNBA has announced that it will add another three franchises, bringing its total to 18. All clubs are expected to be up and running by 2030.

The cities of Detroit and Cleveland will have WNBA teams return, having already played host in the past, while Philadelphia will be home to a franchise for the first time ever.

Wisely enough, Cunningham steered clear of Philly, plus she’d have been dead wrong to suggest what she suggested about Detroit and Cleveland, having questioned whether anyone would be excited to play there.

“I’m not so sure what the thought process is there,” Cunningham said on Tuesday. “… I don’t know how excited people are to be going to Detroit or [Cleveland].”

Hill has responded to Cunningham’s criticism by pointing out that she plays in Indiana.

“Sis, you play in Indiana. No disrespect,” she wrote, with over 1.3 million sets of eyes watching.

While Hill is right, Cunningham does play in Indy, she probably didn’t consider the love residents have for basketball.

For one, they have Caitlin Clark now, while the Hoosiers and Pacers have very, very passionate followers.

That isn’t to say Cunningham is right to dump on Detroit and Cleveland either; they do have deep basketball history, especially the Motor City.
