ICE On Pace For 1 Million Migrant Arrests In Four Years As GOP Eyes More Funding

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is on course to apprehend nearly one million undocumented immigrants by the conclusion of Trump’s term, although this figure does not meet his target. Republicans are advocating for enhanced border security and additional funding in forthcoming spending bills, which may result in an increase in arrests. ICE has ceased the publication of daily arrest statistics but continues its operations, with recent reports indicating over 11,000 arrests since January 20. Despite a reduction in border arrests, the rate is anticipated to rise. Challenges faced include capacity constraints and information leaks, such as the disclosure of an ICE operation in Aurora, Colorado, which led to vacant apartments and public protests. ICE is contemplating restricting media access to safeguard its operations.
