This incident marks the latest in a series of security breaches associated with Mar-a-Lago, which serves as the president’s permanent residence in South Florida, as reported by Newsweek.
Throughout the years, numerous individuals have been apprehended for attempting to access the property—some under false pretenses, others carrying electronic devices, and a few asserting they had important information to convey to the president.
Mar-a-Lago frequently hosts President Trump’s high-level meetings and official engagements, presenting unique challenges for law enforcement due to its semi-public status. It is not merely the president’s home; it operates as a club with private events and a flow of guests.
As per the Palm Beach Police, 49-year-old Caroline Shaw approached the south gate of Mar-a-Lago and expressed to Secret Service that she needed to urgently communicate with Trump. She also mentioned that there were firearms in her vehicle.
She was promptly detained while Secret Service and Palm Beach County deputies conducted a search of the vehicle, according to the arrest affidavit.
Shaw was subsequently charged with two misdemeanors—one for possessing an expired registration and the other for driving with a suspended license. Court documents indicate that she pleaded not guilty.
A judge has mandated that she remain away from President Trump, Mar-a-Lago, and any other properties associated with Trump.
Palm Beach Police Sergeant Michael Ogrodnick informed Newsweek that the department has also sought a risk protection order against Shaw, which is currently under consideration.
The U.S. Secret Service informed Newsweek via email on Tuesday that it is collaborating closely with the Palm Beach Police. “Although the incident did not affect our protective operations, we take these issues very seriously,” stated the agency. “This arrest is being managed at the local level, and we are grateful to the Town of Palm Beach Police Department for their prompt response and cooperation.
“Inquiries regarding this arrest should be directed to the Town of Palm Beach Police Department.”
A White House representative informed Newsweek that President Trump was briefed on the incident that occurred in June.
Shaw is scheduled to return to court on July 14, 2025, at 8:30 a.m.
This incident follows closely after another individual scaled a wall at Mar-a-Lago, asserting his intention to “spread the Gospel” and marry the president’s granddaughter, Kai.
As per detention records from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, 23-year-old Anthony Thomas Reyes was apprehended by the Palm Beach Police Department after he attempted to unlawfully enter the president’s Florida estate.
Reyes, who had previously been arrested during the New Year’s holiday for attempting to illegally access Mar-a-Lago again, allegedly told law enforcement that he wished to enter Trump’s resort to “spread the gospel” to the president and marry his granddaughter, Kai, according to the police report concerning the incident.
According to documentation from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, Reyes was initially detained on trespassing charges and released on a $1,000 bail, which was subsequently raised to $50,000. Federal charges may also be forthcoming.
At the time of the incident, the president was in the nation’s capital.
An adult male was apprehended early on Tuesday morning by the Palm Beach Police Department for illegally entering the Mar-a-Lago Club property in Florida. Shortly after midnight, the individual climbed over a perimeter fence and set off alarms. U.S. Secret Service agents detained him without any issues at the location. Officers from the Palm Beach Police Department arrived at the scene and took the individual into custody, charging him with occupied trespassing,” stated the U.S. Secret Service to Fox News.
The Palm Beach Daily News reported that Reyes had previously attempted to breach the president’s Florida estate prior to his arrest on Tuesday.
As per the local outlet’s arrest report, Reyes had been warned by Palm Beach police for trespassing at Mar-a-Lago on New Year’s Eve when Trump was present.
