Dems Reject Schumer, Join Republicans To Give Trump Another Win

More than a dozen Democratic senators aligned with Republicans on Monday to approve President Donald Trump’s latest nominee, who was previously a Republican member of the Senate.

The Senate confirmed David Perdue from Georgia to serve as Trump’s ambassador to China, a crucial position given the importance of trade and national security matters with the world’s second-largest economy. The vote concluded with a tally of 64-27 in favor of cloture, which necessitates 60 votes.

In 2022, Trump endorsed Perdue in his bid to challenge incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp (R) in the primaries, but he was unsuccessful.

At the same time, the Democratic Party continues to experience a decline in support from one of its essential voter demographics, young individuals, as indicated by a recent survey.

Brett Cooper, the host of “The Brett Cooper Show,” asserts that many individuals from her generation feel that the Democratic Party no longer aligns with their values.

“Democrats are completely out of touch with their voter base,” she remarked during a segment on “Fox & Friends.” “They are aging out. We do not want them in Congress anymore, whether on the left or the right.”

She pointed out the older senators and representatives, including Sen. Dick Durbin, who announced his retirement last week, as illustrations of this issue.

“You see members of Congress like Dick [Durbin] who are so old,” she stated. “Young people feel unrepresented, and they are fed up.”

She contends that the Democrats find themselves in a no-win predicament as a struggle ensues between the radical left and the centrist factions.

“If they dislike Donald Trump, they are frustrated that their representatives are not resisting him sufficiently. Conversely, if they lean more towards the center, they are upset with how extreme the party has become. They feel entirely abandoned,” the host expressed.

A recent poll conducted by the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics supports her assertions.

The survey revealed that the approval rating of congressional Democrats among young voters plummeted to 23 percent, a significant decrease from 42 percent in early 2017.

Republicans perform slightly better with an approval rating of 29 percent, which is an increase compared to recent years within a demographic that typically does not support Republican candidates.

President Donald Trump’s approval rating in this poll stands at 31 percent, which is nearly identical to his rating during his initial term.

Cooper posits that individuals like New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez might appeal to new voters.

“I believe they will need to alter their approach. We will see if that strategy proves effective,” Cooper remarked. “We will find out if AOC connects with as many individuals as they anticipate.”

“This is clearly a deeply felt issue, and they understand that to engage Gen Z, historically, it has been through emotional appeal, which explains the prevalence of these selfie videos and rallying cries,” she noted.

“The strategies they have previously employed to connect with my generation, utilizing social media and employing broad, emotionally charged language, may not be effective this time,” she added. “They must finally heed their voters and genuinely assess their reactions.”

Should the Democrats seek new leadership, polls indicate that Ocasio-Cortez could be the candidate they turn to.

A survey conducted by Data for Progress reveals that the left-leaning New Yorker is leading Schumer by 19 points in a potential 2028 Democratic primary election.
Although Schumer continues to hold his position as the leader of his party in the Senate, his appeal among the party’s base seems to be swiftly diminishing.

From March 26 to 31, 767 likely Democratic primary voters in New York were surveyed regarding their support in a hypothetical primary contest between Schumer and Ocasio-Cortez. The results were notable: 55% favored Ocasio-Cortez, while only 36% supported Schumer.

These results were not isolated incidents. The poll indicated that Schumer had the highest disapproval rating among all Democratic figures assessed, while Ocasio-Cortez was among the most favored, only behind Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Kamala Harris, and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
