During an interview with guest host Charlie Hurt on Monday’s episode of “Hannity” on Fox News, DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin indicated that the department is considering all options “on the table.”
“When you witness situations like what occurred in L.A. today, where Mayor Karen Bass is interfering with the proceedings of official federal officers who are trying to enforce laws established by Congress, are you hesitant to arrest her, or has her behavior not yet reached that threshold?” Hurt inquired.
“We are keeping all options available, but I would like to ask Karen Bass, who exactly is she protecting? Is it the gang members we are targeting, or the children, or the drug traffickers? Which of the violent criminals that are instilling fear in the streets of Los Angeles is she attempting to shield, because it certainly is not American citizens or her own constituents.
“We are aware that in the past 150 days under President Trump and Secretary [Kristi] Noem, we have apprehended nearly 600 known or suspected terrorists,” McLaughlin continued, along with “2,700 members of Tren de Aragua. For those viewers who may not be aware, they are a brutal, highly organized gang that kills, rapes, and maims Americans for sport.”
She further stated: “They profit from the sex trafficking of young women. They have operated with impunity on the streets of America for four years, but under President Trump, that will no longer be tolerated.”
In the meantime, Republicans are attributing the increase in violence aimed at immigration enforcement agents and Border Patrol to the actions and rhetoric of Democrats.
Considering this, the Trump administration has committed to a “zero tolerance” policy regarding violence against law enforcement following the shooting of a local police officer near an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Texas on Friday.
“We are vigilantly observing the assaults on DHS detention facilities in Prairieland, TX, and Portland, OR, and are collaborating with the USAOs and our law enforcement partners,” Deputy Attorney General Todd Blance stated on Saturday via the social media platform X.
“The Department maintains a zero tolerance policy for attacks on federal officers or property and will apply the full force of the law against those accountable,” he further remarked.
This warning came in the wake of distinct incidents at Department of Homeland Security facilities in Prairieland, Texas, close to Dallas, and in Portland, Oregon. Additionally, it was issued prior to what officials described as a planned “ambush” targeting a Border Patrol facility, also located in Texas, on Monday.
Multiple suspects were detained after an officer from the Alvarado, Texas Police Department was shot while responding to a report of a suspicious person near the Prairieland Detention Facility, where they encountered an individual armed with a firearm, as reported by CBS News.
When officers attempted to approach the suspects, they were fired upon, with one bullet hitting an officer in the neck, according to police reports. The injured officer was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Worth, treated, and subsequently released, as confirmed by the Alvarado Police Department.
The suspects tried to escape, but several armed individuals were captured with the help of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies.
On Saturday, Trump commended ICE officers for their daily efforts in “reclaiming our Sovereignty and Freedom,” highlighting their importance in his strategy for the largest mass deportation initiative in U.S. history.
“This July 4th weekend, I wish to extend a heartfelt ‘THANK YOU!’ to the Heroic ICE Officers who are fighting every day to reclaim our Sovereignty and Freedom,” Trump stated in a post on Truth Social.
He emphasized his signature immigration proposal, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, as essential for providing ICE with billions more in funding to execute its immigration enforcement responsibilities,
